TOO MANY POINTED STICKS:  778 words   32 pages

Premise:                      Sheila is a squash child who lives in the long-ago village of Greenwallow. She loves making useful structures and tools with sticks. She chases away a large squash thief beast from the garden by threatening to poke it with a pointed stick. The event gives Mr. Greedes, a lazy neighbor, the idea to make lots of pointed sticks. He trades them for squash, so he won’t have to grow his own. His actions flood the village with pointed sticks, unfounded fears, and painful accidents. Sheila, with simple innocent outspokenness, leads the village back to common sense. Like pounding swords into plowshares, the sticks are transformed into peaceful, productive uses. Even the beasts evolve from squash thieves to noble, majestic Squashalo of the Great Prairie.
